ALTAVINS VITICULTORS
The Cellar of ALTAVINS VITICULTORS was born with the aim to elaborate fine wines, profiting of the enormous possibilities of some estates that were located in the area of the TERRA ALTA, which is, therefore located in the Southwest from Catalonia.

The company was created in 2001 by three wine lowers: Joan Bautista Arrufí, Jordi Casadó and Xavier Arraya; the three of them had a great interest and an intense passion for the wines of all over the world. Their origin was the region of TERRA ALTA and therefore they believed in the great possibilities of this unique land, as far as vineyards are concerned, for which they made the bet of making there, their own wines.
THE CELLAR
From the very beginning, the working criteria have mainly been the continous amelioration of the final product, even if this fact, supposed to far away work from only looking for pure commercial results. From the union of all this values, our wines were born; young wines, either white or red, or “crianza” wines, matured in French, American or Centre European oak.


ALTAVINS VITICULTORS makes wines profiting of the last known technologies, using 10.000 liters stainless steel vats, in order to vinificate the different varieties, separatedly, with soft pressing, even if this means to obtain low must quantities and using cool equipments to control fermentation temperatures, in order to optimize to the most the vinifications.


ALTAVINS VITICULTORS makes a production of 50.000 bottles and exports to 14 countries in the world. We continue the aim of putting in the market only maximum quality products, by means of controlling the complete wine making procedure, from the vine to the customer’s glass.
D.O. TERRA ALTA
In the TERRA ALTA region, the wine growing has a tradition of centuries, and traditionally the wines from our land have been recognized and used to fortify wines from other areas. This fact brought us to the situation of creating the Denomination of Origin “TERRA ALTA in 1982. From then, onwards, the own characteristics of the terroir and the native varieties of the zone were strengthened. ALTAVINS VITICULTORS believe that these basic characteristics have to be enhanced as the principal value added to the wines of the region.

ALTAVINS VITICULTORS makes a severe control of the vineyards where grapes come out to make great wines. We specially evaluate the age of the vineyards, their health situation and their low productions. Following the said data, we select the vines from the different estates, according to the year rainfall and to the sunshine daily hours. Therefore, areas like Benufets, Massalocans, Serres and Mudefers, with different soils and different hydric balance are already selected form bringing to us the prime material for our wines.
Thus, this fact helps to have white grenaches of more than 45 years old, red Grenaches and carignan grapes older than 60 years and the oldest merlot and cabernet sauvignon of the region of Terra Alta which are older than 25 years.
The harvest if always done by picking up grapes by hand and the grapes reach the cellar for vinification in 20 Kg cases, in order to avoid the pressure in the prime materials.
